chapter 7.1
360 wayang Kulit

Background

Wayang Kulit is dubbed as "the original movie theater", Wayang Kulit a.k.a Shadow Play is one of the many intangible heritages of Malaysia that has waned in popularity in recent years.

Although it originated in India, it has spread throughout Southeast Asia, each adopting its own artistry form and rules. Some notable unique features of Malaysian Wayang Kulit are the "tapak" (ground), the inner arm holding a weapon/tool, and a sturdier and solid build.

This Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia, under the MengukirMalaysia campaign, TM aims to bring back the love of the Wayang Kulit art form. With help from Tintoy Chuo and his Tok Dalang (The Master Puppeteer) who are well known for their fusion of contemporary versions of the ancient art of Wayang Kulit, we use the art form as a medium to tell a story inspired by one of Malaysia's forgotten heroes, the great Tan Sri Hajah Zainon Binti Sulaiman, also known as Ibu Zain.

With human-centered technology as our mantra, we also brought this story to life by turning this Wayang Kulit story into a revolutionary 360 experience.
